In May 2013 we ran a workshop series that connected to over 300 people across Devon in schools, youth centres, community groups, dance sessions for people with learning difficulties, refugee groups and more.
The subject of the workshops was gender identification. This was a rewarding project in itself, but the premise was to take the responses and create a piece of work using them alongside other research that talked about gender and how we perceive ourselves.
We worked with 8 dancers, a musician, a painter and an actress. Working with the painter was especially interesting in considering the composition of the performance space. The piece was performed at the Exeter Northcott alongside a performance by HeyMoonShaker and an installation that had been created by visual artist Sophia Clist.
